Take a roll of unbleached toilet paper (or more) and what I did was to
take a cleaned, sanitary ice chest and line the bottom with paper
towels. I then took my toilet paper rolls (2 of them and one did better
than the other) and pour boiling water over them to sanitize. Once they
cool, pull the cardboard out then "puree" the oyster mushroom tissue in
a sanitized food processor.
Stuff the holes of the rolls with the mushroom tissue then put the lid
on the ice chest and keep it in a fairly warm environment. I checked on
mine every couple of days to give them an air exchange. Once the mycelia
starts coming out the sides of the rolls, you can then surround them
with pastuerized hardwood chips and shavings to expand the colony.
When you get full colonization of the substrate, cock the lid to give
them light and air so they can flush.
